Xbox 360 vs. PS3 - Which has the best graphics?

Sony's PlayStation 3 is a marvel of technology, while the Xbox 360 has been out for over 12 months. But which games console outputs the best graphics? Gamespot carried out some checks and found that the graphics of most of the Xbox 360 games were superior to those of the PS3.

The Gamespot examined a large number of games before coming to their conclusion. These included:

* Need for Speed Carbon
* Call of Duty 3
* Madden 07
* Marvel Ultimate Alliance
* NBA 2K7
* Fight Night Round 3
* Tony Hawk's Project 8
* Tiger Woods PGA 07

Conclusion:

We expected the PlayStation 3 to ship with several games that first appeared on the Xbox 360, similar to how the Xbox 360 had a lot of Xbox ports at launch. And the PS3 did indeed arrive with a good number of games that originally shipped for the Xbox 360. This gave us the perfect opportunity to compare the graphics on both systems with several cross-platform games. You'd think that the PS3 versions would be exactly the same or slightly superior to the Xbox 360 versions, since many of these games appeared on the 360 months ago, but it seems like developers didn't use the extra time to polish up the graphics for the PS3. We found that the Xbox 360 actually had better graphics in the majority of the games we compared.

To my eye, the Xbox 360 graphics do look better for most of the games. My advice is unchanged - unless you absolutely need to be at the cutting edge, wait 6 - 12 months for the PS3. By then the bugs will have been ironed out (such as the scaling issue, which still remains unfixed, despite the version 1.3 firmware patch) of the system.

i dont know maybe its me but it looks like the 360 games have more light other than that i would say the ps3 had better graphics

sucks for the ps3... im sure theyll have it fixed out soon... well maybe hehe.

but no doubt final fantasy and metal gear will be awesome for it. cant tell how third party games will go though.

i personally like the 360 better myself... but hell i wouldnt mind having any current gen systems.

i jsut got a xbox 360 last night & i am so happy with it the GFX are way better the the first xbox. I have only played the PS3 at a few stores & the games where way to bright for me maybe sony ned to take away some of the sharp out of there games

yeah, this article is a year old. i think its fixed by now. i think.

I got to see a side by side comparison of COD4 last weekend on both 360 and PS3, the 360 one looked better, cleaner and the fucked thing is the ps3 version looked like the land was pictures of land on parts, where on the 360 version, the land always looked like something you would actually walk on.
now seeing that actual game reviewers say the 360 versions nearly always look better, what is the purpose of getting a ps3? there is none. I would say the 360 should be considered a marvel much more so than the ps3 since it came out an entire year earlier, isn't as powerful, and still owns the PS3 in every way imaginable.

i like the 360 more myself. but just sayin ghtat it sucks that it has a high fail rate though.. i know a bunch of friends that had to send theirs in for repairs

yeah and its a bad idea for modding with the 360 with such a fail rate also DUDE I PROMISE ps3 graphics are better than 360 pop in a copy of hevenly sword or ratchet and clank and see for your self.

makes a lot more sense to compare the graphics of games that exist on both systems.

yeah, man. the point alot of people are saying is that games on both are lookin better on the 360, but of course first party games are definitly gonna look good on the ps3.

Heres the thing though games on multi systems will usually get the edge because either they make a deal with microsoft *AKA MADDEN* or they just didnt use the ps3's power

i think its more likely that the problem is that the ps3 is really hard to program for, so while it has tons of potential, it might be hard to reach it.
